Insider guide
Shopping Echo Park.
The story
Echo Park's shops sit near the lake along Sunset Blvd, Echo Park Ave and Alvarado St. Vintage stores, bookshops, a record store and LA-made gift brands make it good for secondhand finds, presents and local goods. The lake itself was built as a drinking-water reservoir in the 1860s and reopened on June 5, 2013, after a $45 million renovation.
Most of the shopping is on Sunset Blvd from about Glendale Blvd to Alvarado St and on into the 2200 block. A second cluster sits on Echo Park Ave near the lake, with a couple of stops on N Alvarado St and in Echo Park Village at 307 Glendale Blvd.
What to Expect
On Sunset Blvd, Sick City Records (1381) is a compact strip-mall shop for alternative and indie vinyl, VHS tapes and band shirts. Three shops sit a few doors apart further along: Gingerly Witty (1710) for handmade women's and baby clothing and bath products, Echo Park Time Travel Mart (1714), the novelty storefront of the 826LA youth writing nonprofit, and Stories Books & Cafe (1716) for new and used books with a back café and patio. Near Alvarado St, 9 Lives Vintage (2117) opened in January 2026 with a rail of 2000s pieces, and P.F. Candle Co.'s flagship carries the brand's widest selection of soy candles poured in Los Angeles.
On Echo Park Ave, the New York menswear label Corridor opened in early 2026 at 1541, in a building it shares with Canyon Coffee, and Shout and About (1547) sells cards, stationery and small home goods from local and California designers. Lemon Frog Shop carries vintage from the 1950s to the '90s, including Gucci handbags. A Good Used Book is a husband-and-wife used bookshop that opened in 2023.
Best Time to Visit
Most shops don't post hours, so check before you go. A Friday afternoon is a good bet: the Echo Park Farmers' Market runs 3pm to 7:30pm at Logan St and Sunset Blvd, with metered parking nearby. On weekends, A Good Used Book holds markets with local vendors and food, and Stories Books & Cafe hosts readings, signings and comedy nights.
If You Only Have an Hour
Start with coffee at Stories Books & Cafe, then step a few doors down to Echo Park Time Travel Mart (1714) and Gingerly Witty (1710). Finish on Echo Park Ave at Corridor (1541) and Shout and About (1547).
Where to Eat
Guisados is the taco stop; order the mini taco sampler platter, chicken tinga or mole poblano. Brite Spot bills itself as the neighborhood's original late-night diner. Quarter Sheets Pizza bakes thick pan pizzas to order, plus pastries like its Princess cake, and keeps a vinyl and cassette collection; expect a wait. For a sit-down dinner, Bacetti Trattoria is an Italian trattoria connected to a wine bar.
